Sharing Buttons and Social Bookmarking Your Way to Search Engine Marketing

A simple search engine marketing
technique to keep your visitors coming back is actually a free
cut-and-paste program. Social bookmarks and favorite places allow web
surfers to save the websites they have visited (like yours) in a folder
to easily retrieve the websites at a later date.
With so many social networks and social bookmarking profiles out there (Facebook, Digg, Delicious, Stumbledupon and iGoogle;
to name a few) it’s difficult to choose just one to offer a quick way
to include your website in your visitors’ bookmarks/favorite places.
Fortunately, you can visit Addthis.com,
fill out a short sign up form, and paste the “Addthis” button on your
website. It has a pull-down menu with a list of the most popular social
networks and social bookmark websites. Your visitors can simply add
your website to their bookmarks/favorites with a single click of their
mouse.
Search engine optimization is about getting visitors to your website. Once they are there, tools like “Addthis” help convert your visitors to new clients.

Quiet Departures Simplify Reputation Management
While most online reputation management problems are started by unhappy customers, old business relationships, or mishaps that make it to the public eye; other reputation management problems are caused by employees.
When getting ready to dismiss an employee, you should quietly begin
changing access codes to online databases, profiles, and email accounts
that the soon to be removed employee has access. A disgruntled employee
can take a mailing list of clients and prospects and potentially ruin
the good name of your organization.
They can also distribute trade secrets which can ultimately get in
the hands of your competitors. While non-disclosures may hold in court,
the possible compensation received from an employee does not match the
damages caused by their actions.
So quietly sever the ties and remove access power before the notice.
Taking a few simple preliminary steps can save your company a great
deal of reputation management problems.

Insurance Marketing without Effort
Perhaps the most discouraging factor of marketing your insurance
agency’s website is the belief that you don’t have the time to do it.
If you are like most agents, this is true; you do not have the time to
market your website.
Some insurance marketing
companies offer website templates which you log into and build. Then,
you have to build links to your website and perhaps manage a blog. Save
yourself time and headaches by working with a company that will put
your insurance marketing on autopilot.
If you are going to embark on a journey through insurance marketing quotes, then here are some questions to ask your prospective insurance marketing company:
1) Website – If the company is going to build your
website, always ask for a couple examples. Have them show you fully
functional websites that have been custom built. Cookie cutter websites
and template designs do not convert traffic to new policies. To convert
your web traffic into new cases, you must have a quality website with
web 2.0 standards and marketing/branding techniques built-in.
2) Search Engine Optimization – Ask your prospective marketing company for websites they have optimized. Look for examples in competitive insurance markets.
3) Content – Getting ranked on the first page of
Google and other search engines involves link building. The best way to
do that is by writing and distributing press releases, articles, blog
entries, and social networks. Your insurance marketing company should handle all of this and only require you to review written content.
By working with an insurance marketing company such as ReadytoQuote.com,
your insurance agency or company’s marketing success can be put on
autopilot and become an asset to your business rather than a time
liability.

Legal Marketing Now Fueled by Social Networks
Over the past few weeks, we have been discussing the process of legal marketing through search engine optimization. The process includes optimizing website content, website structures, building links, and often times redesigning your law firm’s website.
Inbound links (websites linking to your website) can make or break a
search engine marketing effort. Press releases and articles, which are
consistently distributed, help build natural one-way links to your
website.
Social networks like Entrepreneur.com of Entrepreneur Magazine and IncBiznet.com of Inc Magazine are now a standard part of the law firm marketing plans offered by SEOLawFirm.com. SEOLawFirm.com’s parent search engine optimization company, Adviatech Corp., is also launching the “Optimized Business Social Network“, Connect.adviatech.com this year.
These social networks allow us to increase visibility of your law
firm’s name while building links to your law firm’s website. Having a
dedicated social networking team not only proves to be a powerful
search engine optimization tool, but also becomes a web traffic source
of its own. The team works to build a presence on these social networks
while also connecting your firm with other contacts within the network.

Reputation Management – Addressing the Bad News
We often talk about the importance of staying silent when your company is faced with a reputation management problem. The more you talk about it, the more content on the web exists that links to the online reputation management issue.
However, sometimes a problem is so large, widespread, and common
knowledge that it may be appropriate to address the bad news publicly.
For example, an officer in your organization is publicly accused
(and likely guilty) of unethical practices. Several newspapers, blogs,
and reputable media sources have all run stories on your organization
and this unethical officer.
At this level, you cannot just sweep the reputation management
problem under the rug, it is best to address it. The best way to do so
is by publicly dismissing the officer from the organization, with a
message from the board on policies in place to prevent it from
happening again.
However, if the mainstream media has not yet picked up on the story,
we still maintain that silence and quiet “rug sweeping” is the best way
to solve the reputation management problem.

Joomla is NOT Search Engine Optimization Friendly
Recently we experienced a situation with one of our clients. During their first year of search engine marketing through our search engine optimization
services, the client was on the first page of Google for their two
highly competitive keyphrases. Then, when Google updated their systems
in 2008, the website fell off the search results map.
They came to us with Joomla (an open source content management
program related to the Mambo project) and we had our reservations.
After the Google upgrade and the fallen ranking, the client called
us in distress as their page one ranking was a solid part of their
inbound sales strategy and without it, a financial strain was being
placed on the organization.
After all of our search engine marketing
experts reviewed the website and options, we found that Joomla was the
cause of their ranking drop. Because of its disorganized code, poor URL
structure, and overall complexity, the client’s website was dropping
like a rock.
Since the client was a solid, long-term client, we went the extra
mile and quickly put our programming team to work to convert the Joomla
website to a search engine marketing-friendly, content management system, Wordpress. This was done with no extra cost to the client.
Within one week of the website conversion, the client is now ranked
mid-page two for their popular search term and should soon take its
place back on page one.
If you are using a content management system (a program that allows
you to edit your website online), the content management system could
be keeping your website down.
Discuss your options with a search engine optimization expert.

Social Networks Become a Part of Insurance Marketing
Over the past few weeks, we have been discussing the process of insurance marketing

With Reputation Management, Silence says Everything
The value of silence is something that can’t be stressed enough when dealing with reputation management problems, especially when your online reputation management is at hand.
When someone online tarnishes your good name, your natural reaction
is to contest it – to blog against them, or begin a dialogue and defend
your honor. However, all you are really doing is creating more content
on the web that points back to the reputation management problem.
The best thing to do is contact an online reputation management company and start pushing the original comment out of the spotlight. The end result is much greater.

Search Engine Marketing is Made up of Patience and Persistence
Search engine marketing
doesn’t take effect overnight and it’s a good thing it doesn’t. If your
website ranking could leap to the first page overnight, then all of
your competitors could also do the same and there would be no stability
in search rankings.
The fact that search engine optimization
is a progressive process means once your website is on the first page
of the Google search result, your ranking should stabilize within the
1-3 range.
So, continue a persistent link building and search engine marketing effort and have a little patience. That is the best formula for search engine success.

Legal Marketing Begins After Search Engine Optimization
Last week we talked about the importance of onsite law firm search engine optimization.
As you recall, SEO is the process in which your law firm’s website is
optimized with keyphrases, which are included in title tags, meta tags,
image tags, and properly displayed in your website content. Now that
your website is optimized, it’s time to truly begin legal marketing.
When it comes to marketing your law firm’s website, the goal is
always centered around links. The more quality websites linking to your
website, the higher quality Google sees your website content as being.
So, how do we build link?
Press Releases
Press releases go out across (primarily online) newswires which then
syndicate content through places like Google News, Yahoo News, the Law
Firm Chronicle, etc. When your law firm’s press releases are
syndicated, the link to your website is also syndicated; thus
increasing your inbound link population. We recommend at least two
press releases each month which your legal marketing company’s writers should supply.
Articles
Articles work much like press releases; however, press releases are all
about your law firm and articles are strictly informative. Generally,
your law firm’s name is never mentioned in the body of the article only
in the author credit footer. In the footer, we are able to link to your
website using keyphrases. So a divorce lawyer in Boston would have this
keyphrase, “Boston divorce lawyer” linking to the law firm’s website.
Just like press release, we recommend at least two articles be written
each month.
Articles serve a double purpose because they are also used in the social networking and blogging aspect of your legal marketing plan.
We will go into detail on blogs and social networks in next week’s issue.
