Business Phone Systems Are Slowing Small Business Growth
Business Phone Systems Are Slowing Small Business Growth
Standalone business phone systems overtaken by advances in communications technology
April 29, 2008, Vancouver, B.C. – Traditional business phone systems are preventing Small Businesses from fully utilizing advances in communications technology and are rapidly becoming obsolete, says Sutus Inc., the company behind the multiple award-winning Business Central Small Business office communications device.Â
There are over 5.5 million small businesses with under 25 employees in North America and over 30% of them plan to upgrade their phone systems in the next twelve months. It is not a coincidence that the market for Multi-service Business Gateways (MSBG), which combine phone systems with other mission-critical components like routers and servers, has been estimated at US$615 million in 2007 and projected to rocket to US$2.6 billion by 2010 (In-Stat).
Â
What we are seeing is the death of the traditional business phone system’, says Shawn Chute, executive VP of Sutus. ‘Most systems available to small businesses today are either old ‘key-system’ types that can cost a $100 every time you need to “move-add-change†or they are cut-down versions of large enterprise products – bloated with irrelevant features, hard to install and manage and are incompatible with the new wave of VoIP and communications technology hitting the market.’Â
Sutus has signed up nearly 60 channel partners since launching its flagship product four months ago and Chute says that ‘Resellers are now becoming more focused on delivering a complete communications solution; they recognize that their customers benefit from cost and time savings when they can turn to a single product and vendor for all their data, networking and telephony requirements.
Chute adds, ‘Our resellers specialize in selling telephone and technology solutions to small businesses and they are moving away from standalone phone systems because the products are complex and require expensive technicians to integrate with other systems.’
‘Small Businesses are always looking for technologies that help them save on costs and compete more effectively with larger businesses.’ Comments Chute, ‘Until now, business-class integrated communications was out of their reach but this is changing rapidly. Customers want an easy to use product that meets their requirements and can scale upwards as their business grows. The Channel wants technology that is simple for them to install and even easier to support. The result is standalone phone systems are on the way out.’Â
